Busy, Busy Week!

Whew! What a week.
We had the Book Fair, a safe school drill, an assembly and the Walk-A-Thon all in 4 days time. It was a great week.
The book fair was a huge success. Thank you to all who came Thursday night and bought books. I especially appreciate those who donated from my wish list.
We also had a safe school drill. This is otherwise known as a red code drill. We practice these drills in the event that something or somebody were in our building with the intent to cause harm. The drill is done with lights off, our door locked and everyone hiding out of sight. The kids did great. No problems at all.
We also kicked off our Forest Families for the year with an assembly. Forest Families are something we started last year where every student is given a "family" to grow with during their years at FV. Each family consists of 10-11 students mixed from Kindergarten thru 5th grade. We meet once a month and each family will stay intact until graduating to middle school. We'll add new family members each year and the teacher will remain the same for all those years. It's a great way to build community.
Lastly, today was our Walk-A-Thon! We had a BLAST outside walking the route. Thank you to Brooke Graessle, Tara Ruff, Jeanie Scott, Tiffanie Bealhen, Amanda Allen, Tiffany Watkins, Toni Berrie and any others I may have forgotten for coming and helping make this a huge success. We've raised over $10,700 and there's still more to count!!!! As it stands, we're currently in 3rd place. Kindergarten as a grade level has brought the most money in so we're assured some sort of prize. If you'd still like to donate, you sure can-deadline isn't until next Friday the 17th.
Book orders online or on paper are due Monday the 13th. I won't be sending an October book order home, but I will send one for November. I may even do one for December if there is enough interest in Holiday books.
This coming Friday is Pirate Day, a note will come home Monday all about what to wear.

Last item: Be looking for new envelopes to be coming home in your child's black binder. Two envelopes, one for guided reading and one for learning specific skills will be in there. I have attached notes to the fronts of the envelopes to help explain what they're for and what to do with them. I ask that you take the note off once you've read it. That will let me know you got the message.

Thanks and have a great weekend!
